A group of people with SCMN certificates

Sacro is the administrative body for the Scottish Community Mediation Network (SCMN). Established in 1996, the SCMN represents all community mediation services across Scotland. A complete list of community mediation services can be found here.

Different models of service provision exist in Scotland. These range from independent specialist charities, to in-house local authority mediation services. All models, however, share a basic requirement that mediators work with the public in a safe, effective and efficient way. SCMN are an ‘approved body’ for the purpose of the Scottish Mediation Register.

Members of the SCMN meet online three times a year. These meetings are an opportunity for mediators and service managers to keep up to date with developments in Scottish mediation, exchange information and share learning.

The SCMN run three accreditation schemes for:

  • community mediation and homelessness mediation services
  • mediators
  • training providers

If you are a trained mediator practising within a community mediation or homelessness mediation service in Scotland, you may be able to work towards accreditation. Information about how the accreditation process works and what the accreditation standards are can be found in the documents contained within this page.
