Mediation skills

Our Accredited Mediation Skills course takes learners through the theory and practice of the mediation process.  Participants have the opportunity to learn about and practice initial visits, handling clients’ concerns, and on to preparing and then holding the full mediation meeting where all parties meet face to face.

The course supports learners through each stage of the process, building skills and confidence as it progresses.

Sacro has been delivering the Mediation Skills course for over 24 years, and feedback has been extremely positive.

It was a good mix of listening to theory then practicing in the breakout rooms. I really enjoyed it and I’m using lots of the things I learned at work and at home.

Objectives

The course objectives are to:

  • understand your own and others’ responses to conflict;
  • recognise that there are different models and styles of mediation;
  • be aware of the ethics informing mediation practice;
  • appreciate the legal context in which mediation operates;
  • know how current legislation affects mediation practice;
  • understand the role of the mediator in different stages of the mediation process.

Who is this for?

Our experience is that most people can become competent mediators – what varies is the time and effort they need to put into learning mediation skills, and the degree of change they need to make in their style of interaction with other people.

How you’ll be taught

The course is highly interactive and you will learn through a combination of small group exercises, discussions and role plays together with shared learning from trainers. This course is delivered online (using Zoom) and in person. For those unfamiliar or hesitant in using Zoom, feel free to contact us and we can discuss your concerns.
